Visit the Scar Gallery, next to the Black Swan Hotel, where you can view the paintings by David William Morris and Caroline A. Metcalfe-Gibson (also, some by Tom Oldham and Pottery by Lydia Crampton). As well as the paintings, cards with local views by Caroline are on sale here. Caroline teaches small groups at Manor House in the Back Lane on Tuesdays between September and Easter and some days in Summer. David too offers private tuition.
There is a disproportionately large number of painters, both professional and amateur in the two villages of Ravenstonedale and its near neighbour Newbiggin-on-Lune. Could this be due in part to the special qualities of light and clean air that we enjoy? Set between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks these beautiful villages lend themselves to the quiet activities of art lovers from around the world.
In times past Edward Jeffrey, a very accomplished Landscape painter and illustrator of the 'Toby Twirl' children's books, published 1946 - 1958, lived in Ravenstonedale.
Premier Paintings offer a range of Victorian and contemporary paintings for sale online.
