Brasshopper. Canary Islands 2010
"I name this ship Queen Elizabeth. May God bless her and all who sail in her."
With the above words Queen Elizabeth named Cunard's latest cruise liner in Southampton on Monday October 11th October 2010. The following day Brasshopper was fortunate to accompany Kevin and Jackie on the 13-night maiden voyage of the new Queen Elizabeth from Southampton to the Canary Islands. Tickets for the voyage sold out within half an hour of going on sale 18 months before departure. Officially there were 2,092 passengers on board but those of us who live in Ravenstonedale know that passenger 2,093 was a stowaway called Brasshopper who did not make the passenger manifest. Lucky Brasshopper!!
Kevin, Jackie and Brasshopper were accompanied on the maiden voyage by other famous people such as Sir Ben Kingsley, human rights campaigner, Terry Waite, Alan Titchmarsh and Sir Jimmy Savile.
Brasshopper had a ball on the trip thanks to Kevin and Jackie. He now looks forward to going with them again on their next cruise. Ports of Call: Southampton, England; Vigo, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Cadiz (Seville), Spain; Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain; Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands; Madeira, Europe.
