Ravenstonedale Kirkby Stephen Cumbria

Just a note from down south. I spent most of my childhood years coming up to Ravenstonedale, to stay at Banks farm on the road up to Adamthwaite. I haven't been for a couple of years, but often think of the sweet fresh smell of the rushes and the grass on the fells, and the fantastically cold and refreshing water in the springs. It is a delight to discover your community website.

I now help look after a family sheep enterprise at home in Suffolk - 320 mules with Texel, Suffolk and Charolais rams - and run local food/arts events. It would be nice to know if there are any cooking / food events happening in Ravenstonedale. Sadly, our own village website bears the remnants of two years' discussion about a very large wind farm, first proposed and now approved to be built on high ground overlooking the village centre and our beautiful medeival church. I think the one for Tebay was refused? We wanted to adopt a community approach, but the developers persuaded the planning officers otherwise. Best wishes to everyone in Ravenstonedale, especially for lambing - we are just finishing, having brought all the ewes into the farmyard barns in early Feb. Just in case anyone is coming down this way over Easter, I have included details of our annual home/farm exhibition below!

Yours sincerely,

Jason Gathorne-Hardy
