Hello...I'm planning a trip to Ravenstonesdale in early September...my interest is in visiting the birthplace and early home of my great great grandfather, James Fawcett, whose baptism I have traced to St. Oswald's Parish Church on Dec. 15, 1809. I'm most interested in visiting places that would have been in existence at the time he lived in Ravenstonedale (1801-1832). Would you have any suggestions? Is St.Oswald's open to visitors? I would also like to learn more about his mother, Elizabeth Fawcett, born in 1763, and his father, Thomas, who was a farmer and stone mason and who spent his entire life in Ravenstonedale. Elizabeth emigrated to the U.S. after her husband died and is buried here beside James (she lived to the old age of 94). What places would you recommend my stopping?
Have found much more info since my original post. The christening record I referenced there is not the correct one. My gg grandfather, James Fawcett, was actually christened in Orton 10 Jul 1801, parents Thomas Fawcett and Betty Clemey. Thomas and Elizabeth (Betty) were married in Orton 29 Apr 1793. James was married to Elizabeth Parker in Romaldkirk, Yorkshire, 25 Nov 1826.
I'd like to learn more about Thomas Fawcett and his branch of the Fawcett family.
Thank you very much
